Carter Kalbfleisch poses with his service dog, Corbin. Carter's family is now fighting for Corbin to be able to attend public school with the 5-year-old autistic boy. (ZT Pet News Photo Courtesy of Melissa Kalbfleisch) Columbia, Ill. -- The Kalbfleisch family, of Columbia, Ill., had tried every remedy in the book to treat their son, Carter, 5, who was diagnosed as autistic when he was a toddler. “We just kept on missing milestone after milestone.
My vet recomends 1/4 cup grain free dry food, and apr. 6oz grain free moist food per day. A good dry food is Taste of the Wild. My vet has told me that the moist food is more like what they would eat out in the wild. Grains especially are not good for cats, and are mainly used as fillers-to make them feel full when they are not. Some of the better foods have healthy grains like brown rice-but you want to limit those if possible too. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
My cats like the Iams too. When I want to give them a treat I give them a few pieces of another brand of weight control kibble. If it isn't the same old thing it becomes a treat (and you save a little money). If your cat gets out of the yard it may be visiting the neighbors for a quick snack. You might want to check with them and let them know if the cat seems hungry it is because she is on a diet so they would be helping her by not feeding it.
if you feed her kibble, in addition to feeding her a high quality, ultra low carb variety, try putting her kibble into a treat ball rather than a bowl some of the time. make her work and get some exercise!.
Look for a high protein low carb diet with fat no more than 16% and fiber no more than 6% Some commercial and prescription weight loss diets are actually very high in carbs and fat! Carbs are stored in the body as fat so look for a high quality protein cat food. The more protein in the food the less carbs there can be. Also keep track of your portions.
There are some "weight control" dry catfoods. Instead of chicken, they typically use lower calorie turkey. My cats like the Iams weight control.
go back to the vet and get capsar for each animal-even nursing mothers can take it-one pill and the fleas on the animals will literally fall off dead within a couple hours....that will kill the ones on them NOW, the frontline will stop the upcomers that hatch later and any new ones... I used to do this for every foster dog I brought into my home and have never had an infestation ( and they had some hefty flea populations on them sometimes.
I know getting rid of fleas is hard to do. I wish you the best of luck in controlling them. We had a really bad out break of fleas this year. We went with the natural way of controlling the fleas this year. I sprinkled 20 Mule Team Borax on all the carpets in the house and let it set over night before I vacuumed it up and did it again a week later. I also put in on the couch and chairs in the living room. I sprinkled diatomaceous earth all over the back yard. We no longer have fleas in the house. My cat uses advantage plus.
We have a flea problem. I keep my animals on Frontline Plus but it doesn't seem to be helping. I ran to the vet today and bought Advantage for all of the animals and some spray to spray the house with. I really hope it helps.
